Senior QA Engineer (with lead responsibilities)

(75% IC / 25% Leadership)

About the Role We're looking for an experienced SaaS QA engineer who thrives in a hands-on role but also enjoys shaping strategy and mentoring others. This hybrid position involves approximately 75% individual contribution (manual and automated testing and documentation) and 25% leadership (strategy, mentorship, process improvement).

Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy (25%)

  • Define QA strategy, establish best practices, and continuously enhance testing processes.
  • Establish baseline metrics and regular reporting around test coverage, automation effectiveness, and defect trends to foster data-informed decision-making. Proposes and tracks additional metrics as they relate to improvements for our team.
  • Mentor and upskill team members.
  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Design teams to embed QA considerations early in the development lifecycle.
  • Represent QA during planning, advocating for process improvements and quality-centric approaches.

Individual Contribution (75%)

  • Design, execute, and maintain detailed manual and automated test cases for web-based and mobile applications.
  • Increase automated coverage progressively, hitting specific quarterly goals to track automation maturity.
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure rapid issue resolution and root-cause analysis.
  • Balance manual testing responsibilities alongside automation development to ensure robust coverage.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive QA documentation, including test strategies, standards, and guidelines to scale the team effectively.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in Quality Assurance, with extensive experience in both manual and automated testing.
  • Proven experience building or significantly enhancing test automation from an early stage.
  • Proficiency with either the Playwright or Cypress automation frameworks.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; experience influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior or mid-level team members.
